Working gas in storage was 3,097 Bcf as of Friday, June 21, 2024, according to EIA estimates. This represents a net increase of 52 Bcf from the previous week. Stocks were 314 Bcf higher than last year at this time and 528 Bcf above the five-year average of 2,569 Bcf. At 3,097 Bcf, total working gas is above the five-year historical range.

Total consumption of natural gas by all sectors in California increased 4% (0.2 Bcf/d) week over week, according to data from PointLogic. In the Pacific Northwest, the price at Sumas on the Canada-Washington border rose $1.77 from $6.01/MMBtu last Wednesday to $7.78/MMBtu yesterday. Total consumption increased by 6% (0.1 Bcf/d)

Natural gas consumption in the Northeast power sector increased 1%, or 0.1 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) week over week, according to data from S&P Global Commodity Insights. In western markets, from the Opal Hub in southwest Wyoming to Sumas on the Canada-Washington border, prices increased from last Wednesday to yesterday.

Natural gas spot prices rose at most locations this report week (Wednesday, July 7 to Wednesday, July 14). The Henry Hub spot price rose from $3.60 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) last Wednesday to $3.75/MMBtu yesterday. The price of the August 2021 NYMEX contract increased 6¢, from $3.596/MMBtu last Wednesday to $3.660/MMBtu
