Accumulator Types
A BOP accumulator typically consists of a reservoir filled with hydraulic fluid, nitrogen gas and a bladder or diaphragm. The most common type of fluid used in a BOP accumulator is a non-combustible hydraulic oil, such as AW 46 or AW 68. The nitrogen gas acts as a pressurizing agent to keep the fluid under pressure in the reservoir.
